Lost in Data - Devoid of Insight?

Are your planning processes churning out an endless stream of information that means little to your stakeholders? Are those stakeholders struggling for clarity, feeling underprepared and losing faith in your planning outputs?

If so, you are not alone. It’s a very common challenge we see in many organisations and, to be fair, it is no surprise.

Resource Planning has traditionally been, to some degree, a numbers game. Most planners are dealing with varying degrees of complex models and swathes of data and information. It is so easy to become embroiled in these things and lose the ability to see context and see beyond the numbers.

But we must keep at the forefront of our minds the true purpose of resource planning – and it’s not numbers for numbers sake.

Everything we do is about providing actionable insight – enabling stakeholders to prepare by making the right decisions with confidence and clarity.

Two Top Tips:

  • When discussing situations start with your insight and opinions/solutions, not the numbers or data, use those only when you need to

  • More detail does not guarantee greater success, too often decisions are delayed or avoided by asking for more data or challenging the absolute numbers

For many resource planners we meet, this is almost counter-intuitive. However, this approach has proven many times to significantly enhance the level of stakeholder conversation, leading in turn to decisive action and better preparedness for what's ahead.

In a world where nearly all we here is "data, data, data" - we're passionate about our approach. Give it a try, or get in touch with either or Adrian for a chat about it.
